Young Adults (Roughly 14-30 years old) Looking to Define Themselves

For a significant portion of my career while I worked at a major psychiatric hospital in the Greater Houston area, I had the distinct pleasure to get to work in one of their programs that primarily worked with young adults, helping them to not only continue engaging in their individual & group therapy treatment, but also make meaningful & intentional steps to establish and foster a meaningful role for their life. These meaningful roles looked different for every client, but very often they involved going back to school, getting a job, or volunteering; and doing the difficult work to be successful in the endeavor. Getting to support these individuals while they moved forward towards independent goals they previously thought were impossible like degrees and/or stable employment was incredibly rewarding for me personally.

In my private practice here at Thumos.Life, I continue to provide this service as well. I support young adults alongside their individual therapy, helping them to make meaningful progress towards defining their meaningful role for themselves, establishing and/or obtaining the role in their life, and then working together to do the work to keep & maintain the role. Much like when I work with someone in individual therapy, my goal with clients focusing on this type of work is to work myself out of a job, meaning that eventually the client will grow & develop to a place where they no longer require need my support, and I will naturally start to fade into the background as the client gains more independence and is managing all of their meaningful role's responsibilities for themselves. I absolutely love seeing this happen.
