Areas of Expertise

Counseling

In therapy, I love getting the opportunity to be an unbiased sounding board for people to help them with processing their uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, and other internal experiences that get in the way of engaging in their life in a meaningful way.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a therapeutic approach that combines mindfulness strategies with behavioral techniques to enhance psychological flexibility and promote meaningful, values-driven living. Developed within the context of cognitive-behavioral therapy, ACT places a strong emphasis on accepting one's thoughts and feelings rather than attempting to control or eliminate them. The central components of ACT include mindfulness, which encourages individuals to be present in the moment and observe their thoughts without judgment; acceptance, which involves embracing internal experiences; and commitment to values-driven action, wherein individuals identify and work towards life goals that align with their core values. ACT aims to help individuals develop a more open and flexible relationship with their thoughts and emotions, enabling them to lead richer, more purposeful lives.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals process and alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. Developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, EMDR involves a structured eight-phase protocol that incorporates bilateral stimulation, typically achieved through the guided rhythmic movement of the eyes, auditory tones, or tactile stimulation. The therapy aims to facilitate the adaptive processing of traumatic experiences by promoting the integration of disturbing memories with more adaptive information, ultimately reducing emotional distress and negative symptoms. EMDR is widely used for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but has also demonstrated efficacy in addressing various psychological conditions, including anxiety, depression, and phobias.
