Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a therapeutic approach that combines mindfulness strategies with behavioral techniques to enhance psychological flexibility and promote meaningful, values-driven living. Developed within the context of cognitive-behavioral therapy, ACT places a strong emphasis on accepting one's thoughts and feelings rather than attempting to control or eliminate them. The central components of ACT include mindfulness, which encourages individuals to be present in the moment and observe their thoughts without judgment; acceptance, which involves embracing internal experiences; and commitment to values-driven action, wherein individuals identify and work towards life goals that align with their core values. ACT aims to help individuals develop a more open and flexible relationship with their thoughts and emotions, enabling them to lead richer, more purposeful lives.

ACT is also a therapeutic style I have been utilizing for a significantly long portion of my career, both in an individual and in a group therapy environment. Throughout my career, I have had the distinct privilege to get to witness how amazing, if not almost magical it can be when someone not only defines what is most important to the core of their being, but also starts to take meaningful steps to embodying that new, more fulfilling version of themselves. The opportunity to get to be the guide on the side that helps people accomplish this is one of my favorite parts of my career.
